At a glamorous ceremony in the historic London palace of Banqueting House, Cardiff Bay hairdresser Ken Picton saw off competition from salons all around the country to take the title UK’s Most Wanted Business Pro at the 2009 UK’s Most Wanted hairdressing awards. Ken’s award, which shines the spotlight on a business director who has skillfully shaped a red-hot salon business, was presented to him by top TV comic Jimmy Carr.
For 19 years Ken Picton has worked hard to ensure his Cardiff Bay salon is not only a destination hot-spot but also a business force to be reckoned with. He keeps his close-knit, 37-strong team exceptionally motivated, and has recently expanded the salon space to 6,500sq ft to make room for a Glow Skin Clinic, providing cosmetic treatments from Botox to teeth whitening. Business is certainly booming!
Little wonder his entry made such an impression on the judging panel, which included hairdressing luminaries Josh Wood of Real Hair, Mark Hayes of Sassoon and Andrew Barton and Lisa Shepherd of TV’s 10 Years Younger, Vogue contributing editor Anna-Marie Solowij, branding expert Michelle Feeney, design guru Doris Lockhart and Pauline Franckel from the London School of Fashion. As one judge commented: “An outstanding presentation demonstrating good all-round business performance.”
Says Emma Berry, Creative HEAD’s editorial director: “Hairdressing professionals nowadays not only have to be technically gifted, they have to have tremendous business acumen too. Ken Picton has proved himself a worthy winner in a category where the standard of entries was exceptionally high.”
