So it's been a pretty busy weekend down in London for the Ken Picton Art team!
It was time for Salon Int. one of Europe's biggest hairdressing events. We were their to display our skills on the Fellowship stage, an organisation that has been set up to inspire and educate young people. It was a very exiting, high energy show that took the theme Super Heroes as we were using the brand new Super heroes range by L'Oreal.
The second day was just as early a start with us needing to get to the other side of London for a makeover shoot for Candice Magazine. We had three very inspiring readers as our first models who had all individually gone through a life changing experience and as a result found a new hobby. All the ladies looked great. For the second part of the shoot it was the turn of the readers competition winners. Two makeovers complete with cuts colours closeting and makeup. WAW-what a transformation! Thanks to Nic and Paul the colours looked amazing (even thou we had to was the colours off over a sink, not quite the luxuries our Ken Picton clients are used to!!) paired with dramatic cuts and gorgeous styling the looks were complete on two very happy models! Check out the editorials in the magazine early next year!
Thanks to everyone who helped on making this weekend go smoothly!

Earlier on this month ken and I had the amazing opportunity of flying out to Greece to Present 9 Models on an experience weekend for the Wella salons of Greece. The weekend was held in a beautiful cliff side hotel on the Island of Mikinos. After a long day travelling from Heathrow airport and a connection flight to the island it was straight down to work.
The brief was showing the Ability of the SP range by Wella Professionals to achieve Smooth shiny silky hair. The day was a success, all the clients were more than happy and the message had been successfully been delivered. Id like to thank all the guys from Wella Greece for putting on such a success event and for a great welcome! hope to see you guys soon to OBA!!!

LADY GAGA! Ok i know its no secret that i am quite a GaGa fan! but i couldn't resist a quick Blog about her latest Album! "Born this way" with ought even listening to the music its totally inspiring! Her hair on the cover is Free and has an element of Zero Gravity! a Big trend in shoots this season! Second, the nails! if you look closely she has three sets on each finger that gives a claw like effect to them! the music is great too, I love the song 'Hair' "I've had enough, this is my Prare. That ill die living as free as my hair!" Sereously guys, she's not to everyone's taste but definitely Worth a listen...or two!! Daf x

MANCHESTER RED CARPET HAIR - This was a day i was looking forward to soo much but equally fairly nervous about. Ken had given me the opportunity to take my very own master class on Red Carpet hair. These are skills that i love doing and ejnoy watching on Oscar nights. I have Many experiences with styling Celebrity's for these red carpet events but also in London Fashion Weeks which give me the ability to give a modern twist on all these styles. The day began at 9.30am in the Manchester Wella studios where i had 10 eager Students with mixed experiences on hair up to teach and inspire. it gave me such a buzz to pass on knowledge and my experiences with people who were soo ready to take it all in and learn. it is definitely something i want to do again. At the end of the day it was great to reed the feed back forms to not see a glimpse of negative feedback. it was a proud moment to see the work these guys had done and the skills they had set out to learn had been taught. Its a shame it was such a long drive home!

ROYAL WEDDING - The last few months have been full of talk and speculation about the Royal Wedding, The dress and Hair have both been the centre of all these speculation. I was luck enough to be asked by both BBC Wales and S4C to travel down to London to experience the day first hand and to give my opinion on the Hair and fashion.
It was turning out to be a very early start to the day as I was also asked to style the hair of Claire Jones who is the Royal harpist. In order for Claire to be in Central London to go live on American tv at 7am I was at her home with my kit bag at 3.45am!!! (i never thought id be doing hair this early in the morning)
Next was a mad rush to central London to Record the First bullitine for Radio Cymru at 8am, all was going great. We were back on air at 10am-2pm with the live coverage of the Royal Wedding from Buckingham Palace. this was such an honour. and to have the opportunity to give my thoughts and opinions/predictions on the hair and fashion. i personally thought Katherine looked every inch the Princess, The McQueen dress was a perfect choice with delicate lace. The slight Victorian shape to the dress gave presence. the hair was a triumph. i wouldn't like to have seen her with her hair up as i don't feel this is her. wearing her hair down gave her a feeling of youth and tradition in how brides wear their hair for the wedding in history.
Next at 3pm it was on the phone to S4C's Wedi3 where i was coming live from the Mall to give a brief breakdown of the day and the experience i had being there that day. A small break was in order now before going back on BBC Wales Tonight at 6.30-7 for an overview of the day. from 7-7.30 Back on S4C with the footage of styling Claire's hair was shown on Wedi7 and the Welsh news from 7.30-8pm What a day! soo busy but soo much fun!!

Monday was a busy day for us here at the Ken Picton Salon. Shu Uemura were in to top up our product knowlage and to show us some creative wayd to mix products to acheave a tailoured blend for our clients. It was great to brainstorm as a team and i feel training is a vital part of our industry and it is what keeps us on top here at the KP head quarters.
Straight after the training it was straight to the car and start a long journey to london for myself and Daniella aswell as the new guys Rebecca and Scott. We were going to the Coterie event in central london where guest speakers Marian Newman, Darren Bradshaw and the team from Cloud9 would spend the night inspiring us with their creativity and passion.
marriane Newman is a nail technition who has workes with the likes of Alexander Mcqueen, Galleano Vogue and Lady Gaga it was great to listen to her experience and the amount of creativity that can go into nails.
Darren Bradshaw was there to do a quick demo on the Cloud9 equiptment befor introducing to head of cloud9 and origional creator of GHD!
Cloud9 were there to launch a new product they have coming out, a curling wand! This is a great extension to the C9 family and bang on trend for the summer with the textured beach wave making a strong comback!
Call into the salon soon to see it in action.

Just got back home from an Amazing two day shoot in london for More and Closer Magazines.
The shoot on Tuesday was for Closer Magazine where the Brief was to help readers create a style at home where it would guarantee they will not want to 'De tag' them self off Facebook the next day (fool proof Hair)
I had Two georgous models to work on and the Results were great.
The Wendsday was for the popular magazine Closer. the brief on this day was to creat 3 easy ways for the reader to trandform the style 'from day to date'
This was an exiting shoot to work on as it gave me a challenge to create a dramatic transformation but with keeping the technique simple for the reader to achive themselves. It was a fun shoot to work on with so many sets and props to work with.
look out for these shoots in More! and Closer magazines in the coming issues (begining of April)
Right im off to continue my holiday and jetting off to NYC where i might be helping on a shoot on Central park. weheyy!!
take care,
Dafydd

After last nights 83rd Academy Awards, or Oscars to you and me! I will be touring south wales today from studio to studio relaying all the best and worst looks of the Red Carpet!
Ive just don a short and sweet interview on the early morning News show on Radio Cymru! 8.20am is not the time to start talking Hairspray and Teeth Whighting !! Im currently in the taxi back to the Bay so i can get my car to take me to the Tinopolis studio to film Wedi3 live at 3pm. Tune in on S4C.
I will be re-creating some of my favourite looks (models hair providing) along with Welsh Fashion Designer Huw Rees who will be going through the best dresses.
My winners so far are Mila Kunis from Black Swan for her romantic loose wave from a sharp side parting and swooped up into a loose Shin-ion at the back. A great effortless look that will draw good attention if worn correctly.
Secondly was Jennifer Lawrence from Winters Bone for a young actress of only 20. She wore a sophisticated Kate Middleton Blowdry a popular style this season. But a risky move for the Red carpet as with spending 2hours parading up and down i hope she had plenty of Hairspray. But for the dress a flor draping red Calvin Klein number...fffwwoooorrr!!!!!!
A slightly older lady doing it for the women was actress Sharon Stone wearing her hair tightly griped back at the sides but flattering her face with an "anti Product" volume at the top. A great look that we have been seeing a lot of of on the LFW catwalks this season.
Im looking forward to sitting down to a little breakfast now to here the papers take on the looks.
See you soon,
Dafydd Rhys x

Well what a buisy weekend its been!!
After Last saturday in the Salon it was pretty obvious that christmas had deffinetley arrived! it was great to see the whole team buzzing and seeing some fantastic party looks leaving the salon door.
After a busy day at the salon, Sunday was yet another early start for myself and ken! we were on the way to the NEC in Birmingham for the Clothes Show Live. I was a finalist at the Young hairdresser of The year and Ken Demoing At the Hair Ideas 'Chop Shop' Stand.
At the Young Hairdresser stage i had 45min to recreate a front cover look on my model Bexi. It was also great to have the support of my friend and Make up Artist Charlotte Gilles who did an amazing jof of my models make up. Unfortunatley this was not to be my year but entering the competition for the first time and reaching the Finals it was a Proud moment.
Monday came and it was time for the annual Fellowship of British hairdressing lunch. myself and Ken with the promise of lots of champagne decided it was best to catch the train. The lunch was being held at the Dorchester and was full of the Cream of the hairdrerssing industry. with the nominations not being announced and having won the British salon of the year before we were there just to have a good time!!
This then resulted in a great shok to us both when it was then reveald that the Ken Picton Salon and Spa had won the salon of the award for the second time!! well we were Buzzing!!
Congratulations to Ken and of cours to our Clients for thair continued support!
The party was now in full swing and time to move on tho the after party at Mahikis...

Well what a few months its been where has all the summer gone? I cant believe its just over 8 weeks till christmas, dont forget...appointments in the salon are going quick so book your party hair soon!!
September started pretty busy for me with a Memorable day styling for the Michael Van Der Ham show at London Fashion Week! It was fantastic to 'get cracking' on some beautiful hair with some of the Generation NOW team members. It was also great to work with Clare Dawson from HOB who was our head stylist for the day! What an awesome first 'Job' for the Wella team, it was great to share the excitement with the Ken Picton gang when i got back to the Salon!
The 27th of september brought an eagerly anticipated evening for the whole industry! But for myself and the Generation Now team Members an extra special night! Of course, yes, im talking about the Trend Vision Awards and our launch night as Wella's young artistic team! Wella had supplied us with some stonking models, an amazing stage, a stunningly beautiful audience :-) so it was up to us to deliver!
Did we deliver....thats up to you to the critics to decide...but we sure had fun doing so!!!!
It was such a good night and as a team we partied on till the early hours. Not such a good idea as i was filming a live TV show at 1pm in West Wales the next day!
I need also to say a massive congratulations to our girls from the Salon Rachel and Nicola for getting to the final! And an extra special congratulations to Nicola for bringing home the Bronze award to the Salon!
On the 4 October i was lucky enough to be going up to The Wella Studios in Manchester with Ken! We were going up to demo on one of the inspirational Icon Day's! It was great to see more hairstylists from other salons and to share some of our creative ideas. If you ever get a chance to do one of the Wella courses in the studios, their a must!
Probably one of the most amazing days i've had so far...EVER! i know it sounds a little dramatic but on the 11th of October i assisted Ken on a VOGUE shoot at the Iris studios in london! We were there to shoot three shots of healthy beautiful shiny hair for the coming SP ad campaign! Working with such amazing clothing, a fantastic photographer and a talented makeup artist was truly inspiring. Check out the January and February additions for the results!
As we all know on the weekend 16-18 october hairdressers and industry experts alike descended on the Exel centre in london! And it was great to be amongst the buzz with all the Generation NOW team! It was a great pleasure to be up there with the guys! Everybody's looks were show stopping in their own way! This is one thing i am proud of as a team, that everybody exells in different areas. But when brought together we all gel so great! It was awesome to have the S4C crew there as well to document our every move ready for the W3 show i demo on weekly.
A trend i'm loving at the moment is the fish tail plat, it's a definete trend for the coming christmas party season. But remember to pull the plat apart a little to give it that soft Autumnal feeling!
Im also finding a lot of my clients are coming in for that trendy 'dip dye' trend. With Sarah Jessica Parker making the look famous at the beginning of the Sex and the City craze. Celebrities like Alexa Chung and Drew Barrymore are re inventing this trend fresh for the winter, a perfect pairing with a dishevelled wave!
Looking on to the future im currently prepping and researching for a show i have coming up in Paris next month! Im looking in to ways to incorporate smooth sleek sculptures into hair. Also ways to prep the hair to make it easy to change on stage but with keeping the hair effortless and soft!
Right, till your next appointment then, take care and have fun on your christmas shopping!

Well, What a Weekend and a half that was!!
It came to the climax of all our hard work with the Generation NOW team for the Launch at the Wella Professinals Trend Vision Awords.
It was great to see our girls from Ken Picton Nicola and Rachell with their Models on stage! A massive Congratulations to Nicola for winning the Bronze aword in the Colour catagory!!
Then it was time to launch our Generation NOW team! Wella gave us such an amazing stage to be on. (if not daunting with a massive catwalk and big screens!) The lights dimmed and revealed a Fantastic Green Laser show before the entrance of our models!
It was such a buzz to see your model going down the catwalk after all your hard work!
Next was the part i was dreading, making my own entrance on the stage. It was a great honour to be anounced amoung such big names as the Sensual team and the Sassoon academy (it all wend good, and i didnt trip up!! woop)
Then it was time to Party!!! But not to much as I was back filming with S4C the next day in Llanelli at 1.30pm!!
Back in work today! But away again on Sunday with Ken who's hosting a Master class with Wella in Manchester World Studios.
